We all know the posters hanging in classrooms where the letters are accompanied by illustrations of animals and objects. The " Buchstatiere" go one step further and use the technique of "Variable Fonts" to create a mnemonic bridge between the animal's name and the first letter of it.
The " Buchstatiere " are a variable font designed to help children learn to read capital letters while recognising and getting to know animals.
The letter transforms into the animal and vice versa. The smooth transition is meant to create a direct connection between the two states. Some animals the child probably already knows, others can be discovered and placed on different coloured backgrounds. If you are interested in learning more about the animals, you can read the accompanying text.

The font is based on the google font "Lato-Regular" designed by Ɓukasz Dziedzic.
"Buchstatiere" is webbased. You can explore the font, have fun with colours and try out the dark mode.
